Ovulation Tracking with a Cycle App
I wish every woman were taught ovulation tracking.
Many of my patients ARE tracking their cycles with a cycle app.
This is a great way to start paying attention to your body and your symptoms. However, when I ask if they know when they ovulate, most are unsure. Being able to identify if and when we ovulate is critical to receiving the healthcare we deserve.
Many symptoms can occur at various times of the cycle, not just right before or during the period.
We only make progesterone after ovulation. So knowing if we ovulate is important. Also, if we want to support the luteal phase, some treatments should only be used after ovulation, as to not further disrupt the hormones.
Cycle apps use algorithms to predict when you ovulate – so they can be inaccurate.
I encourage my patients to use a validated system of hormone charting. I personally am trained in and teach the Creighton Model, which has an entire medical system (Natural Procreative Technology – NaPro™) built upon the charting system. (In addition to being a naturopathic doctor, I’m also trained as a NaPro medical consultant).
My friend Adella is also getting trained in this system and is currently offering 50% off for a limited time while she’s in her supervised internship. I highly recommend her! Her contact is: adelladragocrms@gmail.com.

Adella and her Daughter
Having patients charting already makes my job as a doctor SO much easier, more efficient and more effective.
The Crieghton Model chart helps me know when to test your hormones and when to dose interventions such as bio-identical progesterone supplementation or even certain herbal therapies. This system gives a TON of info about your health and hormones, including signs of possible endometriosis, low progesterone, low estrogen, cervical inflammation, vaginal infections, PCOS, abnormal uterine bleeding, and more.
I love the Creighton Model because it's super versatile; it can be used effectively for fertility and hormone tracking whether you have regular or irregular cycles, are coming off the Pill, or are breastfeeding, post-partum, or in perimenopause.
Other ways of confirming ovulation include Basal body temperature and urine hormone testing.
Also, I’m currently trialing the Mira hormone monitor. I will let you know what I think in the next newsletter!
