Your PMS is trying to tell you something

Your PMS is trying to tell you something

Does this sound familiar?

A week before your period, you suddenly feel like a different person.

More anxious. Irritable. Bloated.

Your breasts hurt, you're craving chocolate, and your sleep is off.

Then your period arrives, and you finally start feeling like yourself again.

Here's something I wish more women knew: Not all PMS is the same.

The woman experiencing intense anxiety before her period may have a very different underlying picture than the woman struggling primarily with cravings, fatigue, or fluid retention.

And sometimes, severe mood symptoms aren't simply about having too much or too little progesterone. Some women are particularly sensitive to normal hormonal fluctuations.

That's why I don't believe in handing every woman the same hormone-balancing supplement.

I want to understand your pattern.

When do your symptoms begin?

Which symptoms are most disruptive?

Do they improve once your period starts?

And what else might be contributing—your thyroid, nutrient status, sleep, blood sugar, or nervous system?

Your symptoms are information. And your cycle gives us a timeline.

Here's something you can try this month:

Keep a simple daily record of your mood, energy, cravings, sleep, and physical symptoms.

Notice when they begin, when they're most intense, and when they resolve.

Those patterns can provide valuable clues about what deserves a closer look.

Because the goal isn't simply to survive the week before your period.

It's to understand what's happening so you can spend more of the month feeling like yourself.
