Janelle’s Joy as a Birth Mom
The decision to place a child for adoption may be a difficult one, but it can also be incredibly beautiful and rewarding. Birth mothers have overwhelming peace in knowing that they are making the best possible decision for their child. There are many testimonies from birth mothers who have made this brave choice.
One birth mother, Janelle, is passionate about sharing her story. She became pregnant with her son when she was 19 years old and knew that adoption was the best option for him. Janelle was actually able to choose the family that she wanted to raise her son. These parents really got to know her as a person. They would talk often and have dinner together. The adoptive family showed concern for her and wanted to make sure that she was taken care of. Now that her son has been adopted, Janelle still has contact with the family. She receives pictures, videos, and letters on special occasions, and she has even been able to visit with the family.
While Janelle did experience difficulty in her decision, her joy far outweighed her pain. She says, “I love being a birth mom, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world”. Janelle wants others to know just how beautiful adoption can be. She often hears the phrase “that must be so hard”. Janelle doesn’t see her situation as hard, though. Instead, she sees it as very normal. She and other birth moms are just regular people. Through openly sharing her story as a birth mom, she has been able to normalize adoption and transform it into a positive subject to talk about.
Janelle now works with an adoption agency and seeks to educate others and equip them in their journey. Through sharing her personal story, she is spreading not only awareness, but also a positive outlook on adoption.
